Description
A saree is one of the most iconic and timeless garments in traditional Indian fashion. It is a long, unstitched piece of cloth—usually ranging from 5 to 9 yards in length and about 44 to 47 inches in width—that is artfully draped around the body in a variety of styles, depending on region, culture, and personal preference.
The saree is typically worn over a petticoat (inner skirt) and paired with a fitted blouse called a choli. It is draped in such a way that one end forms pleats around the waist, while the other end, known as the pallu, is elegantly draped over the shoulder.
Sarees are made from a wide range of fabrics including silk, cotton, georgette, chiffon, linen, and synthetic blends. Each fabric gives the saree a unique texture and fall, and sarees often feature beautiful designs such as hand-woven patterns, embroidery, sequins, zari work, block prints, and digital prints.
Worn by women of all ages, sarees are suitable for everyday wear, work, festivals, weddings, and other special occasions. They represent a blend of grace, tradition, and feminine charm. Beyond being a piece of clothing, the saree symbolizes cultural pride, legacy, and the rich diversity of Indian craftsmanship.
